Michael Tait New Lead Singer For The Newsboys

"After 22 years and more than 2000 shows, newsboys frontman Peter Furler will no longer front the band in concert. Michael Tait will be touring with the band as lead singer with Peter making special appearances throughout the year."

Full article.

The Beatles minus Lennon = No Beatles
Led Zeppelin minus John Bonham = no Led Zeppelin
Queen minus Freddie Mercury = definitely not Queen
The Newsboys minus Peter Furler and Phil Joel . . . I will certainly miss the Newsboys!

I totally understand that, in some ways I can't picture it, but I'm VERY glad that Peter's staying involved to some degree!

You summed up my thoughts quite nicely, Glenn. :)

I love Michael dearly, and I know that he will do a bang-up job, but the Newsboys will never be the same again. This the end of an era.

It's always tough when a well-established band with a signature sound changes lead singers.

I'm hoping this is like Petra, where a lead singer change reinvigorated the band with a whole new sound and style, and extended their careers.

Wow, I'm having a hard time adjusting to this! Don't forget Paul. He was only in for three years and one album, but I think he would have been a good permanent member.
I'll miss Pete too, but at least he does lead on the new cd!

Downhere needs to stick together, no leaving allowed! ;D

I have to say I agree with that last part, too!

I like Tait, but as a newsboy? It just doesn't seem to work.

And as for downhere... ;) I'm confident you guys will stay together.

Glenn, you summed up my thoughts exactly. I'm glad Pete's staying involved I guess, but seeing as he's the last original member, I'm not sure I can bring myself to consider them to be The Newsboys anymore. It'll be interesting to see where this change takes them.

I know that tweet widget is slightly annoying. When it works it looks great but it seems most of the time it not working.

I am so blessed to have gotten the chance to see the Newsboys in concert last fall at Shoutfest in New Orleans, LA. My childred loved it! We drove all the way back home (3 hours) jamming to the music and praising God for bringing these talented guys here! This news is tough, but it is all about God and I am grateful for all the Christian musicians out there that are positive role models for our children! Peter will be greatly missed. God Bless the Newsboys...Keep up the good work!

Have you heard the Newsboys on the new WOW HITS 2010 CD? It's full of other great artists as well. Check it out here:

I was at a confrence this weekend and a newsboys music video came on, and all of us were really confused. I LOVE the new sound, but newsboys wont the the same without the australian accent coming thru the vocals. Hopefully, this will be a turning point into a new style for the guys.
