Sherri's Pregnant!!

Good news good news!! Sherri and I are having another baby! Sherri is 10 weeks pregnant which makes her due on August 26th. We are very excited as is our son Jonah. Turns out both times I've run the Disney marathon now Sherri has been pregnant. Hmmm, maybe something can be said for Disney Marathon training.

See her blog for some funny things Jonah has said about this whole thing.

National Anthem

Back in the old days when Napster first came on the scene I found this amazing version of the American national anthem sung by Marvin Gaye. It is definitely my favorite performance of it. He put the song into 4/4 time and created a great backup track. I believe this is performed at the 1984 NBA All Star game. It gives me chills every time I hear it and I'm not even American! American's be proud!

Disney Marathon Photos

As promised here are some pics from the weekend! Here's a picture of Erin, my sister Krista, me, and my sister Tracy after we all completed the half marathon. It was pretty cool to be able to stand there with both sisters after we had all completed that same run!! I'm so proud of them for finishing but mostly for sticking through the hard work of getting to be able to run on race day. That is really the hardest part!

Here's me passing my family at the 13 mile mark of the marathon.

I am just about to cross the finish line in this photo and am feeling pretty wasted . I was pretty wasted for the last 6 miles actually!

Jeremy and I after completing our second Disney Marathon together. Sorry about the lack of shirt but I had to have a picture of Jeremy and I here.

This is the moment I was waiting for, kind of. I finally have my Goofy medal in this photo and was able to get a picture with Goofy himself. Wow!
You can't just run at Disney, it would be such a waste. Here's Sherri and Jonah as we are about to go into Epcot. Jonah was really hamming it up for photos that day.

And this had to be Jonah's favorite moment of the trip. After I completed the half marathon we waited in a line to meet Mickey and Jonah looked so excited when he saw him. I don't know how Disney does it. They are able to make kids love them so much and we don't really have that much Disney stuff.

So now I'm home (for one day) and all those long runs are behind me thankfully. I'll take it easy for a little while but not too long. The Nashville Marathon is coming up and it will be the first Rockstar Runners event. So if you think you could even walk a mile in 16 minutes you should consider at least coming down and running the half marathon with us.

Disney Marathon & Goofy Challenge Results

One more quick post to update those of you who are interested. But first, yes I shaved the beard and I am also growing it back. In case you haven't noticed I like to change my hair often but the lack of beard doesn't cut it. And on to the results!

I wasn't feeling great last night as I was getting ready for bed so I was feeling really nervous about doing today's run. My 3:30 goal seemed really ambitious last night as well as during the first couple of miles of the run. But somehow I was able to turn on the cruise control and maintain the pace I wanted which resulted in a 3:31 finish time! I don't have the official time yet but that should be coming soon.

So the results of my Goofy Challenge are 1:43 for the half and 3:31 for the full. I am super pumped and excited about this accomplishment and it is one I'll be proud of for a long time.

I will post some pictures next time I have a chance!

Disney Half Marathon Results

Just a quick note to say I avoided getting sick and finished my half marathon a little quicker than I anticipated with a time of 1:43:47. So I am quite happy. It was a proud day for the Lavender clan as all 3 of us siblings finished the half marathon today. I'll post pics after I take a nap! Need to get ready to run the full marathon tomorrow!

Disney Marathon and Half Marathon

The day is nearly here, or I guess I should say days are nearly here when I will see if all of my training has paid off. This weekend I will be participating in the Disney Marathon Weekend in Disney World Florida. The reason I said 'days' earlier is because I will be taking part in the Goofy Challenge which means I will run the Half Marathon on Saturday and the full Marathon on Sunday. That's a total of 39.3 miles or 63.25 km of running over two days not to mention he amount of walking that will be going on due to the fact that we'll be in Disney World with our 3 year old for the first time.

I feel like I'm ready for this run. The only thing that can really spoil it at this point for me is the potential for getting sick. I came home from the road on Monday and both my wife and mother were home from work sick. Earlier in the week my son and my nephew and his mommy (my sister) were sick and yesterday my dad had it. So I'm the last one standing and I fully expect to get it but it needs to either happen today or tomorrow or else I will be in trouble!

All that said, to give you an idea of the training I've been doing here's a look at my schedule from the past few months. For running the Goofy Challenge you'll see a lot more zeros than you would likely expect. I'm all about rest and avoiding injury though. Plus, sometimes you just can't fit a run in in a day! (you may need to click on the image to read it better)

If you are interested in following my progress you can just follow these links. This one for the Half Marathon and this one for the Full Marathon. I'm hoping to maintain an 8:00 per mile pace for both races. If I can, that will give me a 1:45 finish for the half and a 3:30 for the full. I'll post the results as soon as I can.

In case you would like to check out their blogs both of my sisters (Tracy and Krista) are running as well as my drummer Jeremy and his wife Erin.

Blu-Ray Vs HD-DVD

With so many people owning HD TV's today everyone is asking which format of high definition videos they should be buying, Blu-ray or HD-DVD. I don't own a HD TV but my interest in video production has got me following this battle somewhat and I'm sure there are at least a few people who make it to my blog who wonder what player to get.

Well I came across two articles today that look like they might be sealing the win for the Blu-ray format.

Movie studio Warner Bros. has confirmed that it will switch to releasing HD movies only in the Blu-ray Disc format, potentially ending HD DVD's run in the marketplace and affecting the computer industry as a consequence. (link)
Paramount Pictures is poised to drop its support of HD DVD in favor of Sony’s Blu-ray format, landing a decisive blow to the Toshiba-backed next-generation DVD format and all but assuring Blu-ray's role as the future standard for all high-definition digital video discs. (link)
So the studios that will be supporting Blu-ray will be:
Sony Pictures, MGM, Disney, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Lionsgate and Paramount. From what I can tell that represents more than 70% of the market.

Studios supporting HD DVD are:
UniversalSo it looks like Blu-Ray is the new VHS and HD-DVD will go the way of the Betamax!

There you go, no more waiting. Now you know the future, courtesy of Lavs Blog of course. Go on out and get yourself a Blu-ray player and enjoy some of the best looking video available today.
